Cursor reads project rules from .mdc files in .cursor/rules/; the older single .cursorrules file in the project root is the legacy format. A rule tells the agent your stack, conventions and things to avoid. The repos below are collections you can copy from, plus small tools that generate or sync rules. Several of them also write AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md, so the same rules work in other agents.

How this list is built: we query GitHub's public search API and rank repositories by star count (log scale) weighted by how recently they were pushed to. Forks, archived repos and anything with no push in the last 6 months are dropped. Descriptions and README quotes are the projects' own words. We have not installed or tested these projects. Stars measure popularity, not quality or safety, so read the code and licence before you run anything, especially skills, plugins and MCP servers, which can execute commands on your machine.
